Additions to the Agenda: none
New Business:
Bicycle Friendly Community Program
- Stiney and Michele recently attended a meeting (in Evendale) with Glendale, Reading and Sharonville leaders about a Bicycle Friendly initiative. Each community reported on its current status and our trail maps were distributed. Reading is a little behind because they have some laws which need to be reviewed and maybe revised; however everyone hopes to pass a resolution in the short term supporting the Bicycle Friendly philosophy. Long term goals include the possibility of multi-jurisdictional grant and products linking the communities together. The group will meet again in a month or so, and hope to have a member of OKI present.
- The question was raised regarding liability to the village if someone is hurt while on the trail; the village is covered since the trail is recreational.
Old Business:
Lifestyle Essentials’ April Report
- The summer fitness session will start June 15th and run 9 weeks.
- Expenditure reduction, to the village, from group fitness classes is approximately $1900 in the first five months of 2009.
- The report does not contain a single negative comment this month. We think this may be a first ever.
Director’s Report:
Pool Update
- Our pool is now in compliance with the Virginia Graeme Baker Act.
- The pool is ready and will open Saturday. The swim team has begun practice.
- Jon Bennett is the pool manager; Paul Bonner is the assistant manager; and Alex Shadley is the head lifeguard. (Most of this year’s lifeguard staff are Evendale residents.)
An updated Policy Guideline Manual was distributed to commission members. The manual is now on the village’s website in the Recreation section’s downloadable forms folder.
The tennis courts have developed cracks. The courts pose no danger and are still “playable.” David met with the contractor who resurfaced the courts last year and discussed possible solutions. The contractor will send David information and costs for a temporary repair and a permanent repair.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
- The invitations to Phi’s 50th Anniversary Celebration have been mailed and a few replies have already returned. Activities include:
Friday, July 24th 10:00 AM Golf Outing at Sharon Woods
Saturday, July 25th Noon - 4:00 PM Family Pool Party
Saturday, July 25th 7:00 PM – Midnight Awards Night Style Dinner
- July 4th plans are underway. This one day event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the group (the pool concession stand is the other). Donations are still being accepted for the combo raffle. Applications for the 10K Run are being accepted. All of our July 4th activities are on as scheduled (rain postpones only the fireworks to July 5th).
Open Discussion:
Tennis
- Tony Teufel has started and everyone seems very happy so far. During the first week of classes he had no assistants and still was able to give useful instruction to each of the twenty-five or so ladies that were on the courts.
- Our Youth Quickstart Tennis Program started this week and all the kids seem to be having fun. Kristen recently attended a seminar regarding this new USTA program and received twenty youth sized racquets, a smaller net and special tennis balls for attending.
Evendale Cultural Arts Center is hosting an exhibit this weekend.
Soccer
- The season is wrapping up.
- A coaches’ clinic should be planned for the fall since several coaches will move up.
- Soccer field #2 is coming along. The irrigation system is working but the grass around the goal needs time to grow.
- The adult soccer group play will move to Saturday mornings in the next week or so on soccer field #3.
Motion to adjourn made at 8:07am by Pamela Meyers; seconded by Wayne Mosley. Motion approved.
